Your privacy, in plain language.

This policy describes how Elseself handles information when you visit this website or use the Elseself app. It explains what we collect, how we use it, which service providers help us, and how you can manage or delete your information.

1. Information we collect

Website visits: our hosting and security services may process technical information such as your IP address, browser and device details, pages requested, referring page and request time. This landing page has no account or email sign-up form and does not currently use analytics or advertising trackers.
Account information: your email address for authentication and, if you choose to provide it, your first name.
Reflections: recordings you make or text you enter, plus transcripts, edits, feelings or intentions you add and the reflection, prompt or connection the app generates from them.
Operational information: limited service metadata, such as model identifiers, token counts and processing times, used to monitor service operation and security. App logs are configured not to include the words of your reflections.
Support messages: your email address and the content of a message you send us so we can respond and keep any necessary support record.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

create and secure your account and sign you in;
transcribe recordings and provide the app’s reflection features;
save, display, export and delete your moments and account;
answer requests for help and communicate service updates;
maintain, protect and improve the service and prevent misuse; and
meet legal requirements and protect our rights and users.

We do not sell personal information, use it for targeted advertising or use your reflections to train general-purpose AI models. The app’s generated reflections are suggestions for you to consider; they are not a diagnosis or a decision about you.

3. Service providers and sharing

We share only the information needed with providers that help operate the service. These include Vercel for website hosting, Supabase for account and app-data services, and OpenAI for speech transcription and generating requested reflections. We may also disclose information if required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect users, the service or our legal rights.

Our service providers are required to protect information to a standard at least as protective as this policy, use it only to provide their contracted services to Elseself, and not use your reflections for their own advertising or general model training.

4. Retention and deletion

Your account information and saved moments remain in the service until you delete them or close your account. You can delete a moment or initiate account deletion from the app’s settings. Account deletion removes your account and associated recordings, transcripts, reflections, connections and profile information, except for records we must retain or may retain to resolve disputes, enforce our terms or protect the service.

Deletion is applied to active systems and then to protected backups as those backups expire under the service’s rotation schedule. Support messages are kept only as long as needed to handle the request and maintain necessary business or security records. Technical logs are retained for operational and security needs under provider settings.

5. Your choices

Edit your reflection text, export your moments, delete individual moments or delete your account in the app.
You can stop recording and disable microphone access in your device settings at any time.
Contact us to ask questions, request access or deletion, or withdraw consent for a feature that relies on your consent.

To make a privacy request, email hello@else-self.com from your account email where possible. We may ask for reasonable information to verify that the request is yours.

6. Security and international processing

We use access controls and service-provider security measures to protect information. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Our providers may process information in the countries where they operate; they are required to safeguard it and process it only for the services they provide to Elseself.

7. Children

Elseself is not designed for children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can review and address the request.

8. Cookies and changes

The landing page does not currently use analytics or advertising cookies. Essential technical storage may be used to deliver and secure the website or app. If our practices change, we will update this policy and provide additional choices where required.

We may revise this policy as the service changes. The revision date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
